Friday, Dec. 2nd, 7pm – Young Souls December Potluck

Join us for our monthly Young Souls potluck!  The event is held at a home of one of our members and usually has between 35-55 attendees. Please bring a dish or drink to share. This is an adult-oriented get-together, but Young Souls with children are welcome to bring them along. RSVP on Facebook here. Questions? Contact YS Social Chair Alice.

Monday, December 5th, 7pm – Protest Affinity Groups Prep (Part 1)

In preparation for the plethora of protests in January, Young Souls is assisting in establishing affinity groups. These are clusters of about 5-8 friends who you know, trust, and have information about your preferences when going into a large protest space which increase safety and facilitate quick and effective communication. Wikipedia link for a more detailed definition. Feel free to bring friends who are interested in participating in protests as well. Our goals are to educate you about the many uses of affinity groups, help you establish your group, designate roles, and as a large group, to help get everyone on the same page for resources about where to meet and what to expect in various protest spaces (+plugging you into your January options for expressing your possible feeling of discontent). There will be a Part 2 on Dec. 18th to give us time to get through information we are not able to cover in one meeting. Contact Alice with questions or if you are unavailable during both planned events.

Friday, Dec. 9th, 7pm –  ZooLights – National Zoo (+ other optional dates!)

ZooLights is free and includes live music performances, tasty winter treats, and plenty of opportunities for holiday shopping. More than 500,000 environmentally-friendly LED lights transform the Zoo into a winter wonderland complete with a dazzling light show set to music!  We’ll meet at the Zoo’s main entrance (Woodley Park Metro).  RSVP on Facebook here. Contact Reeve.
Other Options: Alice will also be performing at Zoo Lights a couple of times in December! You can catch her on the stage in full Dickens’ era garb singing carols on December 1st (this Thursday!), 22nd, and 23rd from 5:30pm-8:30pm. Text Alice for details (but don’t expect a response during a gig!). Want to set up a group to go watch together? Get in touch with Justine and Alice and we can help you set up a Facebook event!

Saturday, Dec. 10th, 1 – 3 pm – KAMA DC Interactive Workshop: Human Rights and Civic Organizing

KAMA DC Partnership – KAMA DC aims to provide a platform for migrants and displaced persons to share their skills with the Greater Washington, D.C. community.  All Souls will host KAMA’s first pilot class: Interactive Workshop: Human Rights and Civic Organizing: Vandalark Patricks, a Liberian human rights activist, will speak about his experience organizing with SURE Liberia, Human Rights Defenders, and other human rights networks. December 10th from 1-3pm in the Longfellow Room. Admission is free but registration is required (we’ll send out a sign-up link soon).  Questions? Contact Reeve Tyndall.

Wednesday, Dec. 14th, 5:30pm – YS Happy Hour

Join us for our fourth monthly Happy Hour! This is an excellent event for newcomers to attend and meet the group at large. Local 16 donates 10% of our checks back to All Souls. Location: Local 16 (1602 U St. NW). RSVP on Facebook here. Questions? Contact YS Social Chair Alice.

Sunday, Dec. 18th, 1pm – Young Souls December Brunch

Join us on Sunday December 18th at 1pm for our monthly Young Souls brunch! We’ll meet in Pierce Hall after service and walk over as a group to brunch. Location: Acre 121 (1400 Irving St NW). RSVP on Facebook here. Questions? Contact the YS Social Chair, Alice Goldberg.

Protest Affinity Groups Prep (Part 2) – Time and Date TBD

If you already attended part 1, we will give you follow up information as needed and/or fill in the blanks about unanswered questions you may have from the first meeting. If you or friends of yours were not able to make it to part 1, this is the opportunity to come in and get the information from the first meeting while getting follow up information as well. It is highly encouraged to attend both meetings so we can be as prepared as possible heading into January. Contact Alice with any questions or if you would like to be in a group but are unavailable during both planned events.

Young Souls January Circle Suppers

We’re starting Young Souls Circle Suppers in January! Circle Suppers are small group dinners hosted by Young Souls to get to know each other in smaller settings. Circle Supper hosts will cook dinner for everyone or have the dinner potluck style (depending on the host’s preference). Would you like to host a YS Circle Supper in your home in January? Contact YS Communications Chair, Justine Rothbart by December 14th. Please provide the date you would like to host, the location, and the number of Young Souls you would be able to host. Can’t host it in your home, but would like to organize a small group dinner at a restaurant? Contact Justine to talk about details. Once we have the host information, we’ll send out an email with information on how to sign up to attend a Circle Supper!

Young Souls T-Shirts

We are ordering more Young Souls T-Shirts! Stay tuned for upcoming information.

Classic Movie Mondays

Watch a critically acclaimed film. Popcorn and a movie inspired cocktail will be served. Showtime is at 7:30pm. Co-hosted with Souls in the Center. Contact Reeve for more information.

Thursdays – Young Souls Book Club

The YS Book Club will read Shrill: Notes from a Loud Woman by Lindy West in December. “Shrill is an uproarious memoir, a feminist rallying cry in a world that thinks gender politics are tedious and that women, especially feminists, can’t be funny.” The YS book club meets every Thursday at 7:30pm. For more information, contact Reeve.
