Congratulations to the new Young Souls Board Members: Alice Goldberg (President), Constance Paige (Vice President), Justine Rothbart (Communications Chair), Alice Kurima Newberry (Social Justice Chair), Claire Adrian-Tucci (Social Chair), Nick Ford (Spiritual Chair), and Daniel Martin (Membership and Welcoming Chair). New board members will be officially welcomed at the end-of-year party on June 9th!


All Souls Summer Service Schedule

June 2nd – 4th – Weekend on the Bay 2017 – Registration Closes Saturday May 20th!

Join the All Souls congregation for a weekend getaway at Camp Tockwogh (about two hours from DC on the Eastern Shore). There will be activities for infants through Silver Souls: campfires, workshops, vespers, a talent show, water sports, archery, hiking, gaga ball, and plenty of time to relax and enjoy the beautiful setting. This will be a great way for Young Souls to spend time with people of all ages from the All Souls community. Register today! Saturday, June 3rd, 11am-2pm – March for Truth DC

Bring your signs, chants, and (if applicable) bucket drums! For those in town, we’ll be marching to voice our support for an open investigation of the current administration with 90 sister marches across the country. Friday, June 9th, 7pm – Young Souls end-of-year party!

Join us on Friday, June 9th, at 7pm as we celebrate the end of the year and welcome the new Young Souls board members! Please bring food and drinks to share. Saturday, June 10th, 10am – 1pm – Reeb Voting Rights Project – Registering Virginia Voters

Help register Virginia voters so that all have a voice in choosing their leaders! This November, Virginians elect a new governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general, and all 100 members of the Virginia House of Delegates. Primaries are in June. Join us for three hours on Saturday June 10th with the progressive non-partisan group New Virginia Majority ( No prior experience is required, and we’ll get a brief training before heading out. Register here.We’ll meet at 10:00 am at 3801 Mt. Vernon Avenue, Alexandria, and finish by 1:00 pm. Wear comfortable clothes and shoes, and bring a water bottle and maybe a snack. The Reeb Project Virginia Subgroup is meeting this Sunday May 21st after second service at All Souls. If you’re interested in planning voter registration ahead of upcoming VA elections, here’s your chance! Contact or Bill Kane with any questions.


Sunday, June 11th, 12pm – Young Souls Ideation Discussion on Safe Spaces

Is Young Souls upholding its commitment to be a safe space? Does our safe spaces statement adequately reflect the needs of our populations and ensure that we are always an inclusive and welcoming space? How does the statement impact the way that we use our listserv for communications? Join us to share your thoughts and also to hear from Jessica Raven, Executive Director of the DC Collective Action for Safe Spaces to help us improve our ability to provide a safe space for all. This is your in-person opportunity to provide to provide feedback and help revise our official Young Souls Safe and Transformative Space Statement and our Listserv Use Guideline. These statements will be available online for review and comment from folks unable to attend the in-person meeting. As usual, the first half will focus on the theme, and we will open up the second half for any other ideas to be put on the table. RSVP on Facebook here. Sunday, June 11th-27th – Open Comment Period for Safe & Transformative Space Statement + Young Souls Listserv Guidelines

There will be a release period where we will send the products from the Ideation event (above) to the listserv along with a google survey for comments and critiques. If you were not able to make it to the event on June 11th, the comment period and the final meeting on June 27th are your opportunity to share your thoughts about both statements. Wednesday, June 14th, 5:30pm – Young Souls Happy Hour

Join us for our monthly happy hour! This is an excellent event for newcomers to attend and meet other Young Souls. Local 16 donates 10% of our checks back to All Souls. Thursday, June 22nd, 7pm – Young Souls Social Justice Task Force Meeting & Discussion

Discuss, Plan, Implement, Resist. If you are scared or tired or worn out from injustices locally or globally come chat and organize with compassion! We’ll be working on generating actionable items, plugging into the community, and working on broadening understandings of privilege/decolonizing our minds/learning and friending! All are welcome! Tuesday June 27th, 7pm – Young Souls Follow Up Safe Space Discussion

Rev. Rebecca Parker will be moderating our final discussion before we put forward our Safe & Transformative Spaces Statement + our Young Souls Listserv Use Guidelines taking into consideration comments from the previous two weeks. Contact Alice Goldberg if you have any questions.


Classic Movie Mondays

Thursdays – Young Souls Book Club

In June the Young Souls Book Club will read Hillbilly Elegy: A Memoir of a Family and Culture in Crisis by J.D. Vance. “From a former marine and Yale Law School graduate, a powerful account of growing up in a poor Rust Belt town that offers a broader, probing look at the struggles of America’s white working class.” YS book club meets every Thursday at 7:30pm. Young Souls July Circle Suppers – Looking for hosts!

In May we had ten Young Souls Circle Suppers! We cooked new recipes, tried new restaurants, and had great conversations! Thanks to the hosts for organizing dinners at a restaurant or at your home. Photos are on the Young Souls Blog and Facebook. These Circle Suppers will take place every other month and we are now looking for hosts for the month of July! These are wonderful events for newcomers to meet fellow Young Souls in smaller settings. If you are interested in hosting in July, please contact YS Communications Chair, Justine Rothbart.


Sunday, July 9th, 12 – 3pm – Joining All Souls – Mark your calendar!

Interested in becoming a member of All Souls? Mark your calendar for the next session on Sunday July 9th at 12:00. This session, offered several times throughout the year, provides prospective members with the opportunity to learn more about Unitarian Universalism, All Souls Church, and what being a member means. At the end, they may sign the Membership Book, make their pledge of financial contribution, and have their picture taken for the member directory. Click here to register.
