Young Souls T-Shirts! – Order by October 14th!
Our YS t-shirts are back by popular demand! Check out the order form and get one before the October 14th deadline. Shirts will be mailed as one package and will be available at multiple church events, all tbd once they arrive. Planning on attending Fall Retreat?! Young Souls Fall Retreat – Mark your calendars! – Nov. 3rd – 5th
Fall Retreat is a weekend getaway to the Shenandoah River Valley State Park from November 3rd – 5th. Join other Young Souls for a weekend of spirituality, community, and fun! Stalwarts and newbies alike can meet new friends and deepen current relationships. Registration fills up quickly for this event, so mark your calendars. Registration goes live on Tuesday, October 3rd at 9am. Please check out the facebook event as a reminder. We will have a waiting list- just be sure to register as soon as possible to guarantee a spot! Sign up for the new Young Souls listserv here! We have set up a new free-posting listserv for everything from invitations to events, rapid response protests, to housing availability and requests. Remember to follow our communication covenants and guidelines. After signing up, you can post to the listserv directly by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. Questions? Friday, October 6th, 7pm – Young Souls October Potluck
Join us for our monthly Young Souls potluck! Potlucks are held at a home of one of our members and is a great event for newcomers. Please bring a dish or drink to share with everyone. Wednesday, October 11th, 5:30pm – Young Souls Happy Hour
Join us for our monthly happy hour! This is an excellent event for newcomers to attend and meet other Young Souls. Local 16 donates 10% of our checks back to All Souls. Join us for our monthly Young Souls social justice task force meeting! Feel free to bring some food/drinks. Wednesday, October 18th, 6pm – Young Souls 7 Principles Discussion Group
Have you ever wanted to know more about the 7 Principles of Unitarian Universalism? Every third Wednesday of the month we will gather to discuss these 7 basic tenants of the Unitarian Universalist faith. We’ll talk about the actual language of the principle, historical UU perspectives, and our own experiences in relation to the month’s principle. On Wednesday, October 18th, we will cover the fourth principle: “A free and responsible search for truth and meaning”. Snacks and, friendship will be provided. All are welcome, and those who are either new to the community or excited about the faith are especially encouraged to come. Bring your curiosity and join us as we delve into this intentional exploration of UU beliefs! Location: Conference Room #2- Watha T. Saturday, October 21st, 4pm-6:30pm – UU United Nations Office Reception
The UU United Nations Office (UU-UNO) invites you to celebrate the UU-UNO’s important work supporting human rights around the world, including LGBTQ equality, gender equality, climate justice, and racial justice for all on Saturday, October 21, from 4pm to 6:30pm. Maryland State Senator—and Cedar Lane member—Rich Madaleno will deliver keynote remarks, including presentation of the UU-UNO human rights award on behalf of this year’s recipients: former US Ambassador to the UN, Susan Rice, and US Senator Chris Van Hollen (MD).

Saturday, October 21st, 7:00 PM-9:00 PM – 7 Principles Discussion Group- Weekend Edition!
Are you interested in the ongoing 7 Principles discussion groups, but haven’t had the time to attend? Well now you have a second option! Jessi Salute has offered their house for a weekend meeting of the 7 Principles Discussion Group! Come on over around 7:00 PM for a potluck style dinner and conversation about Unitarian Universalist core beliefs. For this meeting we will reset to the First Principle: The inherent worth and dignity of every person. Location: 1002 Girard St NW, Washington, DC. Sunday, October 22nd, 1:00PM-3:00PM – Fall Ideation Meeting: Holiday Season
We are coming up on so many wonderful opportunities to engage with our community at All Souls during the holiday season! We will have prepared information about what is already available and discuss how we can serve one another after an arguably difficult 2017. Our ideation meetings are an opportunity for our group to meet together and give operational feedback as well. The first half of the meeting is dedicated to a specific topic and then the second half is free-form for whatever you feel we should discuss. Location: All Souls, Room TBD. Young Souls November Circle Suppers – Looking for hosts!
Thanks to everyone who hosted dinners at a restaurant or at your home for our September Circle Suppers. Photos are on the Young Souls Blog and Facebook. These Circle Suppers take place every other month and we are now looking for hosts for the month of November! These are wonderful events for newcomers to meet fellow Young Souls in smaller settings. Thursdays – Young Souls Book Club
In October the Young Souls Book Club will read Mr. Chartwell by Rebecca Hunt. “Mr Chartwell is a huge, black dog. In this original, moving, funny and exuberant novel, Rebecca Hunt explores how two unlikely lives collide as Mr. Chartwell’s motives are revealed to be far darker and deeper than they seem.” YS book club meets every Thursday at 7:30pm.
