Thursday, July 26th, 7pm – Many Voices Reading Group – NEW EVENT!!

This new Young Souls event will feature a short reading from authors who write about diverse backgrounds and life experiences. On the last Thursday of each month, we’ll gather for socializing, snacks, drinks, and a discussion of the reading.

The first meeting will be at Neils apartment (check YS listserv for address) , unless too many people are interested for that space. Please RSVP to the Facebook event (or by email to Neil) so that we know how many people are coming. At that first meeting, we’ll discuss Weike Wang’s recent New Yorker story “Omakase” about dating a person from a different culture. In August, we’ll discuss a selection from Jesmyn Ward’s recent essay collection “The Fire This Time.”

If you want to suggest readings or topics, please email Neil! Readings for the next few months will likely include Michael Twitty’s James-Beard-winning writing about food and African-American culture, Alaina Leary’s writing about disability and literature for The Establishment, a Rebecca Solnit essay about sexism and the literary canon, and a selection from a Maggie Nelson book about love, identity, and genderqueer family making.

Saturday, July 28th 1pm – Young Souls Hike

Meet us at the Cleveland Park metro station for a walk in Rock Creek Park. Exact route TBD. RSVP on Facebook here. Questions? Contact Cora.
