Red Cup (New) Folks in Pierce Hall After Service

Help make Young Souls a diverse and welcoming space by chatting up new folks in Pierce Hall! Young Souls can feel a bit intimidating before you know anybody, so making a specific effort to reach out to those using a red cup or mug during social hour (meaning they self-identify as new, or as a guest) is a great way to make this community as approachable and welcoming as it can be. If you meet someone who wants to join the Young Souls listserv, write down their email address and email it to the Young Souls Board at

Friday, August 3rd, 7pm – Young Souls August Potluck

Join us for our monthly Young Souls potluck! Potlucks are held at a home of one of our members, and they are great events for newcomers. Please bring a dish or drink to share with everyone. RSVP on Facebook here. Hosted by Matt Krieger. Location: Check the YS listserv for address. Questions? Contact Cora.

Wednesday, August 8th, 5:30pm – Young Souls Happy Hour

Join us for our monthly happy hour! This is an excellent event for newcomers to attend and meet other Young Souls. Local 16 donates 10 percent of our checks back to All Souls. Location: Local 16 (1602 U St. NW). RSVP on Facebook here. There’s no Vespers service afterwards because of the summer break, so feel free to stay as long as you’d like! Questions? Contact Cora.

Sunday, August 19th, 12pm – Young Souls August Brunch

Join us in Pierce Hall after service to go to brunch. Location: TBD. RSVP on Facebook here. Questions? Contact Cora.

Tuesday, August 21st, 6pm – Young Souls Taco Tuesday! – NEW EVENT!

We’re trying out a new monthly Young Souls event – Taco Tuesday! Bandit Taco (1946 New Hampshire Ave NW) recently opened around the corner from our regular happy hour spot, so we thought this is a great opportunity to try their $2 taco tuesdays! Come talk to some YS board members, hang out, and eat tacos. More info coming soon! Questions? Contact Cora.

Saturday, August 25th, 1pm – Young Souls Hike

Join other Young Souls for an outdoor walk. Just bring a water bottle! Location: TBD, but definitely accessible by Metro. Contact Cora.

Thursday, August 30th, 7pm – Many Voices Reading Group

The second meeting of this new Young Souls monthly event will be at (check the YS listserv for address), unless too many people are interested for that space. Please RSVP to the Facebook event (or by email to Neil) so that we know how many people are coming. The reading will be sent out via email in early August, and will likely be a selection from Jesmyn Ward’s recent essay collection “The Fire This Time” and possibly from Hanif Abdurraqib’s collection “They Can’t Kill Us Until They Kill Us.”

If you’re interested in hosting in September, just let me know when, where, and how many people you can host. You can host at your home or at a restaurant. Check out Circle Supper photos on the Young Souls Blog and Facebook. Contact Justine.
