Tuesday, February 5th, 7pm – Green New Deal Livestream Watch Party
Let’s get together to learn about the Sunrise Movement’s Green New Deal! On February 5th, hubs and homes across the country will host livestream watch parties where the Sunrise team will lay out the details of their Green New Deal Strategy and officially launch their 2019 campaign to make it a reality. You won’t want to miss it! There will be exciting special guests, inspiration galore, and immediate ways for you to start taking action in your community. Sunrise is a movement to stop climate change and create millions of good jobs in the process. Click here to learn more about Sunrise. Location: Laura and Brian’s apartment in Columbia Heights (email Laura for address). Space is limited! Due to limited space size, please RSVP with Laura.
Saturday, February 9th, 2pm – February Hike
It’s going to be cold, but we’re heading outside anyway! Come join us for a walk in Rock Creek Park. We will meet at the Cleveland Park metro station at 2. Facebook event located here. Please bring a water bottle and good walking shoes. Contact Cora with questions.
Monday, February 11th, 7:00 – 9:00 – Many Voices Reading Group
The Many Voices Reading Group reads and discusses a new short selection each month. During February, we’ll read Octavia Butler’s “Bloodchild,” in which alien-insects basically plant their developing children into men, who must host the pregnancy. So much to talk about here. Butler won tons of Hugos and Nebulas, was the first sci-fi author to win a MacArthur Genius Grant, and was amazing. Story is available here. Audio version is available here. We’ll meet at Neil’s place unless we outgrow the space. When you arrive, text Neil to be let in. Feel free (but not obligated) to bring snacks/drinks. Please RSVP to the Facebook invite or via email, so that we’ve got a sense of how many people will show up (and whether we need to move to a bigger space).
Wednesday, February 13th, 5:30pm – Young Souls Happy Hour
Join us for our monthly happy hour! This is an excellent event for newcomers to attend and meet other Young Souls. Local 16 donates 10 percent of our checks back to All Souls. Invitation to join the Young Souls POC Caucus
The YS POC Caucus was founded early in 2018, in recognition of the need for a Young Soul POC space. They are currently opening the group to new YS POC members! The caucus is a chance for people of color in our community to gather for fun activities (dinner parties, game nights, book circles etc.) or more serious conversations (discussions on making All Souls an inclusive and affirming space etc.).
If you are interested in joining, fill out this form and a member of the caucus will reach out to you. Please feel free to email us (firstname.lastname@example.org) or Alice Newberry, a founding member of the caucus and former YS Social Justice Chair, if you have any questions!
