Friday, May 3rd, 7pm – Young Souls May Potluck
Join us for our monthly Young Souls potluck! Potlucks are held at a home of one of our members, and they are great events for newcomers. Please bring a dish or drink to share with everyone. RSVP on Facebook here. Hosted by Matt, Esther, and Elena. Location: check the YS listserv. Questions? Contact Cora at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Wednesday, May 8th, 5:30pm – Young Souls Happy Hour
Join us for our monthly happy hour! This is an excellent event for newcomers to attend and meet other Young Souls. Local 16 donates 10 percent of our checks back to All Souls. Location: Local 16 (1602 U St. NW). RSVP on Facebook here. For those interested, we’ll walk over to Vespers after the happy hour. Questions? Contact Cora at email@example.com.
Saturday, May 11th, 2:00 pm – Young Souls May Hike
We’ll meet at the Smithsonian Metro stop and head over to Hains Point on the East Potomac Park between the Washington Channel and Potomac River. Please bring a water bottle and shoes that are good for walking. Important note: Last time we did this walk we somehow wound up in an ice cream store at the end; it’s possible we’ll have the same trouble with maps again this time. Facebook event here, and contact firstname.lastname@example.org if you have questions.
Sunday, May 19th, 1:00pm – Young Souls May Brunch
Monday, May 20th, 7:00 – 9:00 – Many Voices Reading Group — DATE CHANGE FROM MAY 13th!
Each month, a group of Young Souls gathers to talk about a short story. During May, we’ll read an early Afrofuturist story: W.E.B. Du Bois’ “The Comet,” about the only two survivors of a comet that hit NYC. The story’s about race and religion, and is a super interesting and very early (1920!) sci-fi piece. The story is available here in text form, and an audio version is available here. Please RSVP here or by email to email@example.com, just so we have a sense of how many people are coming. We’ll meet at Neil’s place (check the YS listserv for address). Feel free (but not obligated) to bring snacks/drinks, and newcomers are always welcome!
Tuesday, May 21st, 5:30 pm- Happy Hour with Rev. Rebecca
Did you know that Rev. Rebecca Parker is the official staff liaison for young souls?! Come, have a drink and celebrate all of her support. We will be meeting at All Souls Bar (3125, 725 T St NW, Washington, DC 20001) and will order pizza from the restaurant next door. Facebook event here. Questions? Contact Claire at firstname.lastname@example.org
May 31st – June 2nd – Weekend on the Bay
Join in for some fun at Camp Tockwogh (about two hours from DC on the Eastern Shore). We want to bring in a robust YS community this year! Registration is now open! There will be activities: campfires, workshops, vespers, a talent show, water sports, archery, hiking, and plenty of time to relax, self-organize and enjoy the beautiful setting. Let’s turn it up this year! RSVP on FB here and register/find more info here: http://www.all-souls.org/wob. Questions? Email Martha or Alice: email@example.com, firstname.lastname@example.org. We’ll be setting up carpools once we get a better sense of who is going!
**Friday June 7th, 7pm – Young Souls End of the Year Party!**
Come to the Young Souls End of the Year Party! Join us on Friday June 7th at 7pm at Abby’s house (check the YS listserv for address) as we celebrate the end of the year and welcome the new Young Souls board members. RSVP on Facebook here. This is a great event for newcomers to attend and meet other Young Souls. It’s a potluck, so please bring drinks and/or food to share. Questions? Contact Cora at email@example.com. Let’s celebrate!
Invitation to join the Young Souls POC Caucus
The YS POC Caucus was founded early in 2018, in recognition of the need for a Young Soul POC space. They are currently opening the group to new YS POC members! The caucus is a chance for people of color in our community to gather for fun activities (dinner parties, game nights, book circles etc.) or more serious conversations (discussions on making All Souls an inclusive and affirming space etc.). If you are interested in joining, fill out this form and a member of the caucus will reach out to you. Please feel free to email us (firstname.lastname@example.org) or Alice Newberry (email@example.com), a founding member of the caucus and former YS Social Justice Chair, if you have any questions!
Interested in joining Souls in the Center?
Souls in the Center is a fellowship of members and friends of All Souls from ages thirty+. Get on top of the news by clicking here to join the listserv; here to join the Facebook group and here to add the Google Calendar. We also started a Movie Club – join here for that! Questions? Contact Souls in the Center Leadership at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Seeking ushers for Sunday services
Ushers welcome congregants and visitors, hand out the orders of service, and help everything run smoothly and safely. The commitment is only one service each month, so it’s a great way to get involved. Contact Mark Matthews at (email@example.com) to learn more or sign up.
