Young Souls Board elections are coming up at the end of this month.

Young Souls Board elections are coming up at the end of this month. Joining the board is a fantastic way to give back to the Young Souls community and help foster the type of young adult spiritual & social environment that drew you to the group.  As we transition to a hybrid in-person/virtual model and expect to return to weekly services when the church tentatively opens up in September, now is an exciting time to be part of the Leadership Team, even if you are new to the group! An info session will be May 17 at 7 pm via Zoom.

Young Souls May Virtual Hangouts – Physically Separate, But Socially Together – Sign up here!

Later this month we will have boisterous board games and provocative podcast discussions hosted by Zach Morris. New members are always welcome to these events!

Vespers, Wednesday, May 12 at 7:30 PM

All Souls is hosting a virtual vespers service in a couple weeks. What is a vesper, you ask? Well, at All Souls it is a worship service modeled after the traditional Taizé worship service, which uses silence, scripture, prayer, and repetitive singing of short chants and rounds to quiet the mind and promote deep meditation. Come with an open mind and leave with a greater sense of peace. More info can be found here.

Young Souls Phone Tree – April 2021

It’s time for another round of the Young Souls Phone Tree! While we’re still eagerly waiting for everyone to receive their vaccine, let’s connect with each other with a good old fashioned phone call. After a year of endless zoom calls, just a simple phone call can help lift our spirits and get us excited about better days ahead! This is a great way to meet new people and stay in touch with friends in the Young Souls community without adding to your Zoom fatigue. Sign up here by Wednesday, April 7th. Questions? Email Justine at justine.rothbart@gmail.com

Arlington Treasure Hunt – Presented by Phoenix Bikes – Sunday, May 2 – 12:30 pm

Using an online event site, you will be guided to each restaurant location to gather clues to win prizes, learn little-known facts about local shops, and taste delicious treats along the way. This ride has been designed to be flexible and social-distance-friendly, so that it can be done alone or with family, on bike or any other way you roll, over an afternoon or throughout the weekend. It’s all about having fun and celebrating local spots that make Arlington our vibrant hometown! And, the best part is that all proceeds support Phoenix Bikes‘ youth and community programs. Cost: $35.00. Sign up here by Thursday, April 29.  Questions? Email Steph at stephanie.v.shelton@gmail.com.

Yoga and Art – Thursdays, April 1, 8, 15, 22, 7:00 – 8:30 pm ($20 registration fee for series)

This four-week series will help develop or strengthen fearlessness as you explore your own creative power. Using the theories of creativity and art making expressed by Julia Cameron in The Artist’s Way and Elizabeth Gilbert in Big Magic as guideposts, instructor Meg Artley, E-RYT 500 and aspiring artist, creates a safe space for participants to embrace play and process rather than perfection in their creative work. Each class will include gentle movements done in a chair to relax the body; breathing and meditative techniques to calm the mind; and a creative prompt/artistic technique/introduction to an artist’s work to get the juices flowing. Participants will be given an assignment to work on at home along with specific techniques to try or to build upon, or resources for further investigation. Once the class is underway, time will also be spent sharing creative pieces or processes that participants want to share with the group. Pique your interest? Feel free to join our merry creative band. Please bring a journal or sketchbook and a writing/drawing instrument to the first class. Sign up here.

Jubilee Three Anti-Racism Training – Friday, April 30, 6:00 pm – Sunday, May 2, 6:00 pm

We invite trans+ folks into community building and conversation together.

Connecting Racial Justice at All Souls in the Past, Present, and Future: An Intergenerational Panel and Dialogue- March 7 @ 12:00 – 1:15 PM

How can lessons from the past guide us as Unitarian Universalists in fostering racial and social justice in our congregation, our community, and nationally?

In honor of the All Souls 200th anniversary year, join Young Souls and Silver Souls for an intergenerational panel and dialogue on racial justice in the past, present, and future. All Souls elders and other members will share personal experiences about the church’s historic moments in the fight for racial justice and how this connects to present-day efforts to achieve racial equity. They will also share reflections on how their unitarian universalist identity has influenced their racial equity and justice journey. Afterward, attendees can participate in small group discussions to reflect on the 8th principle and how we can foster racial justice and dismantle racism in ourselves, our institutions, and our communities. Sign up here.

Migrant Solidarity Team Zoom Discussion- March 4 @ 7:30 pm

All Souls has partnered for years with AsylumWorks to serve hundreds of asylum seekers from dozens of countries as they seek to rebuild their lives in our community.  AsylumWorks founder and director Joan Hodges-Wu will explain the purpose and programs of AsylumWorks, after which asylum-seeking clients will present their personal stories, and we’ll open a space for questions and answers.

The Young Souls Quarantine Cookbook has landed!

Click here to read and download the cookbook.

This year many people have discovered (or rediscovered) their joy for cooking. The pandemic has forced us to eat more at home and to become more creative with our recipes. Instead of searching through the endless choice of recipes on the internet, we’ve decided to curate our collection and select only our favorite recipes for this cookbook.

Thank you to the seventeen Young Souls who submitted their favorite recipes to this cookbook! This was a huge collaborative effort and I appreciate everyone who participated. Names and email addresses of those who recommended the recipes are included on each recipe. The goal is for this to create more connections and conversations, so don’t hesitate to reach out to someone and say, “Thanks for the recipe recommendation. I made it yesterday, and I love it!”

This cookbook is unique because there are special “Cookbook Interviews” from Young Souls interspersed throughout the recipes. These interviews explore different topics about food, such as, baking during the pandemic, vegan eating, food experiences while serving in the Peace Corps, and more!
Cooking can (sometimes) be calming and relaxing, so I hope this cookbook provides some calm during this chaotic year of 2020. We have several soup recipes which are perfect for this time of year as we head into the colder months. There are also many recipes that can be used for your zoomgivings!

Thanks again to everyone who participated in creating this cookbook. Please share widely with your friends, family, and anyone else who would like this! I hope you enjoy the Young Souls Quarantine Cookbook!
Bon Appétit!
— Justine

Developing a security policy at All Souls- please complete the survey!

The Security Committee is in the initial phases of developing a security policy that will encompass the physical, spiritual, and emotional well-being of the All Souls community. This survey will provide a platform for information gathering and to express interest in getting involved. Your voice is very important to the creation of a policy that will support a safe and welcoming space for everyone when we gather again. Learn more about the Security Committee.

Vespers, Wednesday, September 9 at 7:30 pm

All Souls is hosting a virtual vespers service next Wednesday.
