Young Souls COMMUNITY SURVEY

Young Souls wants to fulfill its commitment to the Fifth Principle of Unitarian Universalism and therefore wants to hear your inputs on what you expect out of the community, what Young Souls has done well in the past, where there are areas for improvement, and your hopes and goals for the community during this Board’s current tenure! Please take just five minutes to fill out our Community Survey so that the Young Souls Board can better serve you this year! The more folks we hear from the better!

DC Statehood Film – Monday, October 2nd at 7:00 pm

The Reeb Project is thrilled to host a screening of this one-hour historical, documentary film on the fight for self-government in Washington, D.C.  – written and directed by All Souls congregant Anna Reid Jhirad! After the film, Rev. Bill will facilitate a Q&A among a diverse group of DC voting rights activists. Light refreshments (including popcorn!) provided. We are also looking for folks to sign up to help set up!

Thrifting in Northern Virginia – Sunday, October 8th, 3:00 pm

Looking for that perfect piece of clothing or new decor? Join us for some thrifting in Northern Virginia. We’ll be going to Unique Thrift Store in Merrifield, Virginia and if we have time, Goodwill in Falls Church, Virginia. Unique Thrift Store is a huge warehouse with tons of options for whatever you are looking for. I have 4 spots in my car 🙂

Happy Hour – Wednesday, October 11th at 5:30 PM

Join us for a happy hour ahead of All Souls’ monthly candlelit, music-filled Vespers service. 🎶🕯🎶

Arrive at Wonderland Ballroom at 5:30 or whenever you can, and we’ll walk to the church together for the 7:30pm service. Happy Hour at Wonderland Ballroom lasts until 6:30pm. Enjoy Oktoberfest food this month!

Potluck @ Saúl’s Home – Friday, October 20th, 7:00 PM

Potlucks are a great opportunity for newcomers and longtime members alike to gather so please come on out, bring a dish or drink, and have a great time with fellow young souls. If there is interest, we can hold a moment of reflection and sharing, as well.

There are 3 stairs to get into the home and there is a bathroom on the ground floor. My home is a 1/2 mile walk from both the Shaw and NoMa metro stations and stops for the 90, 92, 96, and G2 buses are 2 blocks away. There is also plentiful street parking. I will send out my address to attendees a few days prior.

Volunteering with Food Justice DMV – Thursday, October 26th from 5:45pm-8:00pm

Young Souls will have a regular volunteering slot on fourth Thursdays with Food Justice DMV starting October 26th! Join us as we pack boxes of food and essentials and help load fresh produce for our asylum-seeking and undocumented neighbors.

Mindful Geocaching in Columbia Heights – Saturday, October 28th, 12:30 PM

Geocaching is a global game in which people hide “caches” of artifacts only to be discovered and rediscovered again by other players who seek them out, add their own treasures to them, write in the journals they contain, take treasures from them, and return them to where they came from. Geocachers explore their environments, taking time to look closely at environments they have passed maybe hundreds of times before to look for and notice what they never did before.

We will meet on the steps of All Souls at 12:30 PM on Saturday, October 28th to set off and look for caches in the Columbia Heights area! Feel free to bring a set of artifacts, a stamp, or even just your name to leave in different geocaches in the community. We will go around and share, if you are comfortable, what your item is and why it is special to you, and the focus will be on being fully present in our environment. You will also need to download the Geocaching app on your phone and create a free account to participate.
